The court determined the compact was invalid because it allowed betting off tribal lands without a voter referendum. Hard Rock Bet subsequently ceased operations in Florida on December 27, 2022.
Current Status (Early 2024)
As of early 2024, the situation remains in flux. The Seminole Tribe and the state of Florida are attempting to renegotiate the compact. A key sticking point is finding a solution that respects both the court ruling and the state’s desire for revenue from sports betting.
